--By Horatio Algeranon

with more than a little help from the "Anonymuse* Most High")
To emit, or not to emit: that is the question:
Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer
The slings and arrows of outrageous Denialists,
Or to take arms against a rising sea of troubles,
And by cutting CO2 emissions, end them?
To buy offsets: to emit;
Al Gore(?); and by the offsets to say we end
The global warming and the thousand natural shocks
That global warming is heir to, 'tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish'd.
To buy offsets: to emit;
To emit: perchance to scheme: ay, there's the rub;
For with that emission what schemes may come
When we have not weaned ourselves off this motor oil,
Must give us pause: there's the respect
That makes calamity of so long life;
...
The fossil fuel addiction does make cowards of us all;
And thus the native hue of resolution
Is slicklied o'er with a rainbow sheen of oil,
And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their currents turn awry,
And lose the name of action.
*Some believe "William Shakespeare" was a pseudonym.
