Climate Screeching

 --by Horatio Algeranon

All the talk
Of a "Climate Hawk"
Is like a discussion of fairies.

The reality
Is that we will be
More like "Climate Canaries."

It's the "Stupid Trend"

-- by Horatio Algeranon

The "Stupid Trend"
Is without end
It even has an upward bend.

The globe has cooled
So don’t be fooled
Jim Hansen has been over-ruled

The ice is back
There is no lack
The latter is a simple fact

The HCN
Is at it again
In bed with all of Hansen’s men.

The stupid claims
From the usual names
Might seem no more than silly games

But don't pretend
The "Stupid Trend"
Is really aught, but means to an end.

"HCN" = "Historical Climatology Network", which has been the focus of much misinformation.

The Odd Man Out

 --by Horatio Algeranon

The odd man out

Is apt to shout

"Jim Hansen’s an outdated lout"

Or that "The surface station temp

Is elevated by burning hemp

And from the record should be exempt."

Or that "The NOAA is corrupt

For having surface stations dropped

To hide that global warming stopped."

Or that "The ice is now returning

After a brief hiatus, we are learning,

And really not worth our concerning."

The odd man out,

Is all about

Sowing the seeds of warming doubt.

Inspired by Tamino's Odd Man Out post.

Gopher Hunting

-- By Horatio Algeranon

The intertubes have many ports.

Like backdoor escapes in gopher resorts.

So blocking one is of little use

For stopping gophers on the loose.

Portal to the Past

--by Horatio Algeranon

The Kiva reveals a secret,

Through a portal to the past,

A timeless admonition:

"Civilization does not last."

Econumeroclimato Logic

-- by Horatio Algeranon

Economists have mastered numerology --

Raised it to an art.

Some now apply it to climatology

To play their little part.

"Numerology is any of many systems, traditions or beliefs in mystical or esoteric relationships between numbers and physical objects or living things. Today, numerology is often associated with the occult, alongside astrology and similar divinatory arts. The term can also be used for those who place excess faith in numerical patterns, even if those people don't practice traditional numerology. "(wikipedia)
As everyone knows, economists have pretty much figured everything out in their own field and need only apply a few "touchups" to the ceiling of the Byzantine Chapel-- eg, fix a minor "flaw" in their maestropiece:  "God's creation of Alan".  So it's really no surprise that some (not all) of them now find time to bring their considerable (and sorely needed) econumero logic to bear on much simpler matters, like climatology.

"Top economics textbook — McConnell, Brue, and Flynn — gets climate science and policy wrong." (Joe Romm, Climate Progress)

And, of course, there's Superfreakoclimato Logic, a (broken) branch of Econumeroclimato Logic.
